Our Philosophy
"PERFECTION Takes Time." Atkinson Geyer Model AG2Ks ( aka AG2000 ) are meticulously made one at a time with finely fitted joints, artful bracing, and polished to a mirror finish. Sounds great? We don't stop there! It has a wonderful balance and is physically light to reduce fatigue and improve response. We make everything in house and use both old world techniques and modern computer technology. Still not enough? The high register and sound are magical, the staccatos are crisp while the legatos are smooth and fluid, allowing you to let your artistry shine. AG2K is the only Horn in the WORLD made with original Geyer valves and bore sizes so we can truly say there is a bit of Carl Geyer in every AG2K that you order. Our tubes are precision drawn to give you consistent thickness and hand fitted slides for smooth pulling. The crooks are formed in hardened steel molds using carbide balls to give you a glass-like interior finish to resist corrosion from the inside. Bells are hand cut, formed, and spun to original Chicago-Geyer dimensions. Pitch is critical and set at A440-A442 with optimum mouthpiece fit into the mouthpipe. We employ only the finest in materials with over 50 years of experience and a family tradition of EXCELLENCE!! We offer you "European tradition imported from BURBANK, CALIFORNIA!!"

        UPDATES for our NEW LOCATION!!!!

AtkinsonBrassCo and Moosewood Mouthpieces are pleased to announce that we are relocating to the state of GEORGIA. This excitement is with a sense of sadness.
After 50+ years in California, 40+years in Burbank, a better opportunity opens up right now. It has been a wonderful ride with thousands of Horn People on the west coast who have become like family supporting us. This decision has been contemplated for too long. There is an old saying that life needs to be back to zero for a new start. Now it’s time for a change and GROWTH.
Special thanks to the many people who have worked at our Burbank workshop and for all their efforts. Wishing each one of you all the best. I look forward with great anticipation to working and training a new crew in the Art of Horn Repair, Horn making, Valve making with much more Bell making and spinning in our NEW IMPROVED facility. The workshop is on 4.75 acres of Land surrounded by thick tall greens, a bigger floor map with a tall ceiling all on the same floor. A newly added salt water pool is ready for all my visitors to dip in this summer. This relocation will give us a chance to travel the eastern seaboard to meet east coast friends and new and old customers. A lot of catching up to do This monumental move will be completed this month (March). All pending orders will be completed on a timely basis. All future orders should be placed through the website or call my cell directly (the best way!). We will process them as soon as possible. Please give us some extra time this month. I am truly blessed with strength, vigor and fortitude. We look to the future with marvelous anticipation. With Love and Deepest Gratitude to ALL.

More about us:

The Atkinsons are a family of horn players and hornsmiths dating back since before 1964. Mark Atkinson's father Robert Atkinson played professionally and worked with Carl Geyer at every available opportunity and passed this legacy down to Mark. As a young boy Mark started working at his father's shop sweeping and cleaning tools and machines. Later in life he began his full-time career as a hornsmith. This career began in playing the horn with great teachers such as Wendell Hoss, James Decker, and Vincent DeRosa and progressed with apprenticeship instrument building. Many of these skills were learned in college while others were through working in instrument factories with some of the best craftsman in the world. Through teachers and associates he learned the craft of REPAIRING and BUILDING Horns with exacting detail and personally has over 50 years of experience!

Our Craftsmanship
GREAT HORNS made repeatedly each and every time! When you order an ATKINSON HORN this is what you expect and We Deliver On This Promise! The new “LEGACY SERIES” models AG2K & AK1930 are made to acoustical excellence with special attention to pitch, overtones, articulations, legato, dynamic range, and mechanical reliability. As these attributes are essential, we do not stop there. ATKINSON HORNS are meticulously made one at a time with finely fitted, stress-free joints; artful bracing; and polished to a mirror finish. Sounds Great? Why stop there? The instruments have a wonderful balance: light in weight so when you stand, sit, or have bells up you will not fatigue. We employ both old-world techniques and modern computer technology, and we make our valves in house and are not dependent on European makers for any parts. Still not enough? Our slides are precision drawn for smooth pulling and we use only the finest in materials. As every note you play is critical thus every part we make is just as important so you can express your musicality with Atkinson Horns. We have a family tradition of excellence with over 50 years of experience. Our Motto: “Perfection takes time.”
