The BEST selling hand made model since the year 2000.
The AG2000 AKA AG2K
The best recreation of Carl Geyer's original Chicago horn. Made with the same tapers, tooling, and techniques as Geyer, resulting in a horn that feels and sounds like a Geyer model horn should.
We pay special attention to the minor details that give our horns the extra character that is missing from too many other horns. We hand-bend all of our tubes to fit perfectly and align to each individual horn. This allows us to stay true to the long solder beads between the tail-stock, first branch, and short F branch, as well as between the leadpipe and the tail-stock. These long solder points even out our horns and prevent any "bad notes." The leadpipe venturi is based on the original Geyer dimensions, however we fine tune it to every horn (and player) for the optimal feel and response. Traditionally, Geyer's horns were completely lacquered brass, so we've kept to tradition although we have the ability to customize any part of a horn, we've even made completely lacquered nickel silver Geyers. Every detail has been analyzed and developed, but we are constantly improving and seizing any opportunity for improvement.
We put all of our horns through a vigorous testing procedure even before we give it the final polish to make sure it lives up to our standards. While each horn is unique, they all need certain characteristics: beautiful and warm tone in the softer dynamics; brilliant, projecting tone in louder dynamics; in-tune open "top" A (concert D) as well as with 1,2; smooth transitions throughout all registers without any change in airflow; the ability to achieve multiple sound profiles in all registers; and accurate tuning across the whole range. All these contribute to a horn that just wants to sing.
You will notice all of these as you start to play your brand new horn, but the more you play it, it will "break in" and gain even more of the features that we, as musicians, value the most. Usually a horn will finish this "break in" period in 6 to 14 months, but this of course depends on how and how much it is played.
The wait list for our horns is short for a custom horn maker, why? We make all of our own parts. We start from sheet, bar, and un-sized tubes. We manufacture all of our braces, ferrules, caps, rings, tubes, slides, and anything else you can think of. This gives us complete control over all aspects of our horns. If we feel something can be improved, we can implement it immediately. No waiting for orders to arrive for our various parts. This also helps us keep our cost down in the same way that eating at home is cheaper than eating out. No unnecessary waiting for us means no excessive waiting for you.
As horn makers, we strive to give you the best horn possible, made to order, with all the care and artistry that you give to your passion for music.
